Choosing the access mode: e-mail, voucher or access code

Updated

On this page

Each site uses one access mode at a time: E-mail, Voucher or Access code. Different sites of the same portal can use different modes.

The three modes at a glance

Mode

What the guest does

Suits

E-mail

Enters their e-mail and confirms with the link or code they receive. They get online straight away for a few minutes, to read the e-mail.

Hotels, offices, events: you know who connects.

Voucher

Enters the code printed on the voucher.

Hotels and campsites that sell or give away access.

Access code

Enters the shared code you gave them, for example on a card in the flat.

Holiday rentals, B&Bs and small guesthouses.

What changes between them

  • Data collected: with e-mail, the confirmed address and the fields you choose; with voucher and access code, only the fields you choose. The privacy notice is always accepted.

  • Marketing: with e-mail, with the guest’s consent after confirmation; with vouchers no, because there is no e-mail; with the access code, with consent and an e-mail to confirm (double opt-in).

  • Duration: with e-mail and with the access code, the session duration of the site or portal applies; with e-mail you can also let guests choose how many days they need. With a voucher, the time starts at first use and the plan decides it.

  • Devices: with e-mail each device signs up; with a voucher as many as the plan allows; with the access code every device that uses it, with an optional maximum.

  • Sponsor: only with e-mail. See access approved by a sponsor.

Where to choose it

  • For the whole portal: Portal settings → How guests connect.

  • For one site only: in Sites open the site, set Site configuration to Specific to this site and choose in How guests connect.

Managing the access code

The Access code menu, in the Guest group, appears when the portal or one of its sites uses the access code. There you can:

  • enter a new code, 6 to 32 letters or digits, or press Generate;

  • set Valid until, if the code should expire;

  • set Devices connected at the same time, the maximum number of devices online with the code.

When guests change over, change the code and tick Also disconnect the devices that entered with the previous code. Without this option, connected devices stay online until the end of their session.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use two access modes on the same site?

No: each site uses one mode at a time. Different sites of the same portal can use different modes.

Can I collect marketing contacts with the access code?

Yes, if you enable consent: the guest leaves an e-mail and confirms it. They join the list only after confirming; internet access does not depend on it.
